Pureology Fresh Approach Dry Conditioner Review!

I use a lot of dry shampoo, so I figured it’s time to try a dry conditioner as well. I did a bunch of research on the different brands, and decided to try out Pureology Fresh Approach Dry Conditioner.

Pureologyfreshapproachdryconditioner | by themani-ac

I bought the travel size, just in case I didn’t like it. The travel size is 1.3oz for $9, I believe the full size was around $24.

I tend to use it on day 2-3 of my dry shampoo days. Those are the days where my ends start to feel super dry. It’s just like dry shampoo, you spray it in your hair, I usually tend to keep it to my ends, but you can do mid-shaft to ends. Then just brush your hair.

Unlike dry shampoo, there is no white color or any kind of residue. Right after spraying and brushing, my hair feels much smoother and looks less dry. I don’t think it actually hydrates the hair though. I feel like I need to spray my hair a few times and at a few different angles to get all of it.

Overall, I do like it and will keep using it on my dry shampoo days!

Have you tried dried conditioner?

Function of Beauty Update!

So, I’ve been using my custom Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner for a while now, so I thought I’d give you an update!

functionofbeauty2

I’ve been using it for about a month, 2-3 times a week, and what you see above is how much of the product I’ve used so far. I’m going through conditioner a bit faster than the shampoo, which is normal for me. I have changed up the way I use the product, for my first shampoo, I lather it up in my hands, but for the second shampoo, I apply to directly to my scalp and lather. I usually end up with 5-6 pumps for shampoo and the same for conditioner.

Pros:

  • I have noticed that the middle section of my hair is very soft and stays soft for days after washing.
  • My hair is noticeable shinier, I definitely see a difference with that, and it stays shiny for days after the wash.

Cons:

  • Even though my formulation is basically just hydration, for some reason, I’ve noticed my scalp is drier than normal.
  • Right after hair washing, my hair feels nice and soft but a day or two later the ends dry up again. If I do any kind of heat styling or even no-heat overnight curls, my ends get very dry, even if it’s right after washing. I don’t use it every day, as suggested, so that might be the problem, but it is worth noting.
  • I haven’t seen any overall improvement on my dry ends. The longer you use it, the more you’ll see the effects, but so far… I haven’t seen any improvement in end hydration, they still get very dry and brittle.

I’ve avoided using any other hair products while testing this one, I just started using argan oil again after my last few washes because I couldn’t take my dry, frizzy ends anymore. My ends are a bit color damaged, so I don’t expect anything to heal them, that’s what haircuts are for lol. However, I am a bit disappointed with the dry scalp, I was not expecting that at all. I actually just decided to switch up my routine, my last wash I used totally different products (one to review!). I’ll probably go back to Function of Beauty after my scalp is back to normal and see how things go from there. I’ll most likely be back with another update!

Redken All Soft Conditioner Review!

If you’ve seen my last couple of hauls, you know I’ve been buying a lot of hair products. One that I happened to buy in both hauls, is Redken All Soft Conditioner.

redken all soft

I first bough the normal sized bottle, but when Ulta had their sale on jumbo sizes, I had to grab one!

It’s a pretty thick conditioner, I like thicker ones because I feel like they are more conditioning and absorb better. It might just be me though…

It smells pretty nice, it does have a slight plastic-y smell when you first squeeze it out of the bottle, but it dissipates once it’s in your hair and then smells really nice.

I like to apply to my damp hair and wait about 5 minutes before I wash it off, kind of like a mini leave-in treatment. It leaves my hair super soft, even my dry ends. It’s definitely my favorite ‘normal’ conditioner at the moment.

July Ulta Haul!

Wooooo! The best time, Ulta haul time!

julyultahaul

I actually split this haul into two days. One day one I bought two new Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks in Uptight and Conspiracy (reviews coming soon),  Ulta Vanilla Sugar body scrub, and another Batiste dry shampoo. On day two, I bought the jumbo Redken All Soft Conditioner.

I love the Ulta body scrubs, they’re sugar scrubs and on clearance pretty often. I always grab them if I see them on sale. I got this one for $2.97! Awesome price, the last one I got was around $5.

In terms of hair, if you like Redken and other salon brands, jumbo sizes are on sale! They start at $12.99, but vary by brand. The Redken was $15.99, plus you get a free pump (normally $3) and I used the $3.50 off $15 coupon, so I got it for around $13.00! It’s normally $32! So I’m super pumped about it. If you saw my last hair haul, I bought the normal size All Soft conditioner, which was $16.50… so this is a crazy good deal. Not sure when the sale ends, so hurry!

Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask Honey Treasures Inital Review!

This is just one of the new conditioners that I bought and mentioned in my last hair haul post.

Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask Honey Treasures

It’s pretty thick, similar to the It’s A 1o mask. It smells interesting when applying it, not much like honey, maybe more like coconut/vanilla with a hint of plastic lol. After you wash your hair, the plastic-ness fades and you’re left with the very pleasant coconut/vanilla scent.

I apply it in the shower, after I’ve shampooed and squeezed the excess water out of my hair. I thoroughly coat my damp hair, tie it up in a low bun and leave in for 3ish minutes. Then I rinse it out. I instantly notice that my hair is softer. After my hair dries, I do feel a noticeable difference.

I’ve used this twice so far, and I’m really liking it! Have any of you used it? What’s your favorite hair mask?

June 2015 Hair Haul!

I was in need of some new conditioners, and I’ve been eyeing a new curling iron for a little while now, so it was time for a trip to Ulta!

hairhaul

First things first, I bought three conditioners at Ulta and one at Wegmans. I got:

  • Chi Argan Oil Plus Moringa Oil Rejuvenating Mask
  • Redken All Soft Conditioner
  • It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product
  • Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask Honey Treasures

The curling iron I finally decided on was the Hot Tools 24K  Gold 1″ Curling Wand. I went with the one with the clip.

So far, I used the Chi mask once, and I like it so far. When I’ve formed an opinion I’ll do an updated post on it. I also used the curling iron the other day, I didn’t use the clip, just used it as a wand and I got the loose waves that I was looking for… so far so good. I’m really excited for the Garnier mask and Redken conditioner, and I’ll post updates on those too.

What are some of your favorite hair products?

My Summer 2016 Wish List!

Ever get in those moods where you’re just itching to buy stuff? I’m in that buying mood! Usually, when I want to just buy stuff, I never find anything to actually buy… which is probably a good thing lol. But this time I have a list! And I thought I’d share it with you!

  • Bumble and Bumble Super Rich Conditioner

$Bumble and bumble Super Rich Conditioner litre - Bloomingdale's

Yassss! I bought the 2 oz bottle a while ago to take with me while traveling. It’s lasted me three trips so far, still have some left, but every time I use it I fall in love with it. It makes my hair super soft, and I especially love the combo of this and the It’s A 10 Leave In spray. This is pretty pricey, $59, but for 33.8 oz, that’s not bad.. considering 2 oz is $10. Definitely going to buy this very soon, cannot wait!

  • Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum

Product Image

I first saw this in an Ulta magazine a month or so ago, I smelled it and that was it. Needed it! It’s light and floral, but not too sweet or flowery. I think it’s perfect for summer, and I actually want it specifically for a wedding that I have next month lol.

  • Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks

You may have heard that Urban Decay is changing up their lipstick lineup, getting rid of the Revolution lipsticks and replacing them with 100 (120 at Sephora) new lipsticks… the Vice lipsticks! I watched a swatch video and really liked some of the colors, they also come in 6 finishes: mega matte, comfort matte, cream. metallized, sheer and sheer shimmer. These new lipsticks are going to be $17 for .11 oz, which is a much better deal than the Revolution lipsticks which were $22 for .9 oz. I’m going to limit myself to buying 4 in one shot lol I think the first two I want are Uptight and Tilt, but it’s really tough to narrow down! These come out on June 5th.

  • Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer

INSTA-MATTE LIPSTICK TRANSFORMER

I haven’t actually looked at reviews for this yet, but it seems so cool! I’m really into matte lipstick at the moment, and I have a bunch of colors that I’d like to be matte, and this would do the trick! I’d be especially pumped to use this with my Rouge Louboutin lipstick.

  • Curling Iron

This one is iffy. Again, I have that wedding coming up and I think I need a larger barrel curling iron. I have a Remington conical wand, which I love, but I think it may be too small, it might do the job though, so I’m conflicted. Mind you, I don’t use heat tools unless it’s a special occasion, so why do I even need more?! Sigh.

I’ll honestly probably be getting the conditioner and perfume this weekend lol and I cannot wait!

What’s on your summer wishlist?

It’s a 10 Silk Express Miracle Silk Conditioner Review!

I’ve been solely using this for a couple of weeks now, so I decided it was time for a review!

it's a 10 silk

I mentioned this in my last hair care update, but I hadn’t used it enough for a full review. But it is now time! So let’s get to it…

Starting with scent, it smells great, as all It’s a 10 products do. Consistency is pretty thick, maybe just a little thinner than their hair mask.

For application, I apply it after I shampoo and leave it in for 3-5 minutes then rinse out. I definitely feel a difference right away after I rinse it out. My hair is much smoother and softer. Then I just towel dry, comb through and let it air dry. Combing is great, no tangles!

One of the benefits of this conditioner is that it actually helps your hair dry faster. At first, I was a bit concerned that my hair was drying so fast, but then I read the back of the container lol. Once it’s dry, it’s definitely nice and soft, especially after I brush it out.

I also find that my hair stays softer longer. With other conditioners, it would dry out again after three days, this one keeps my hair nice and soft and hydrated. I also noticed that the more you use it, the better it works. The first time I tried it, I as like ‘meh’, but as I kept using it, I liked it more and more.

If you like It’s a 10 products, I’d definitely recommend trying this one out!

What’s your favorite conditioner?

Updated Hair Care Routine!

I feel like I haven’t done an update on my hair in forever! I think the last thing I showed you was my pink hair. Well, that’s long gone. I dyed my hair back (as close as I could get) to my natural brown hair color, and I’ve just been trying to grow out all my gross ends.

So, first and foremost, I now get a trim every 8 weeks. My last one was a really big one, I chopped off two inches. It needed to go.

The shampoo I have been using for a while now is L’oreal Ever Pure Moisture Shampoo.

l'oreal everpure

It’s amazing. I had a pretty dry scalp before I started using this and I haven’t had any problems since. It’s now a staple of mine. And it smells awesome!

I am using some new conditioners though. I finally ran out of what I had and decided to go get some stuff I haven’t tried before.

The first one is It’s A 10 Silk Express Miracle Silk Conditioner

it's a 10 silk

I’ve only used it a few times, so I don’t have any strong opinions about it yet. I do have to say that I noticed that my hair did dry faster after using it. Honestly, I didn’t know it was supposed to do that until I accidentally read it somewhere lol. I’ll keep testing and may put up a full review.

Another conditioner I just started using is OGX Hydrate + Repair Creamy Hair Butter

ogx

This is a leave in or rinse out, which is pretty cool! It is very buttery. Again, I’ve only just started using it and I’ve been switching between it and the It’s A 10, so I need to use one at a time for a while before I can formulate a real opinion.

I like both of them so far, so that’s good news lol.

A conditioner I’ve been using for a little while now is the It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in.

10 leave in

I use it every time I wash my hair, after using a rinse out conditioner. I like it, my hair definitely feels softer, especially right after I comb it out.

And finally, OGX Argan Oil.

argan oil

I really like to use this on my ends, I find that it helps when I slather it on my ends before bed and it soaks in overnight. Also, if I do a no-heat overnight curling thing (which I usually do) I like to add just a tiny bit of this all over my hair after I brush it out.

And that’s it! I think I still have another 2-3 inches to get rid of until my hair is where I want it to be. But in the meantime, I’ll be trying all the hair things!

What are some of your current favorite (or all time favorite) hair care products?

My Current Hair Routine!

I recently switched up my hair routine! About three weeks ago I bleached and dyed my ends purple so I knew I’d need to change up my routine to help my hair out.

First and foremost, I now do a coconut oil pre-wash

077890377000I did do a post about my initial thought a little while back, you can check that out here. I think it definitely makes my hair shinier, but I haven’t really seen a huge difference so far. But, to be honest, I haven’t been paying close attention… I’ll have to get on that lol

I also changed my shampoo!

500I learned that my shampoo had sulfates, womp womp, so I decided to switch to something sulfate-free. I really like this so far, not sure if the lack of sulfates really makes a difference BUT I love the scent! Although sometimes it does make me kind of hungry… coconut mixed with rosemary haha

I’ve also started using a few different conditioners on somewhat of a rotation. My normal conditioner is SH-RD Nutra-Therapy Conditioner.

My hairstylist gave me a bottle of this and the shampoo for my birthday last year, and I liked it so much that I ordered a big bottle of it (you can find it on Amazon). It also has a rosemary-ish scent, which I really like and it leaves my hair nice and soft, which I need.
Sometimes I’ll use it alone, but sometimes I’ll also add some Pantene Overnight Miracle!
300I remember the first time I saw the commercial for this with Zooey Deschanel and something possessed me to go out and get it… and I fell in love from first use. It really does leave your hair really silky and soft and I love that I can just sleep in it and not be bothered with anything else. Sometimes I’ll use just this as my conditioner, but recently I’ve been starting to use it mid-week. On a night when I don’t wash my hair (which is most, because I only wash my hair once/twice a week), I’ll dampen my hair and add this stuff right before I go to bed. It just refreshes my ends and add lots of moisture.
If I’m going for a deep conditioner, I have to go with It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask.
1383435_it4__43395_zoomThis will forever be one of my favorite deep conditioners, if not my all time favorite. I like to leave in on for about 30 minutes, and when I wash it out my hair feels silky and soft and manageable!
I’ve also been rotating between a couple of serum/creams. The one I use most often is good old Biosilk!
14229282I’ve been using Biosilk for a long time now and it never fails me. You can use it on wet or dry hair, I prefer dry. It absorbs nicely, adds great shine and enhances your hair texture. When I do my overnight waves technique (lol) I like to brush my hair out in the morning to loosen the waves, then add a good amount of Biosilk, which keep my waves from getting frizzy and just tames them and helps them stay pretty all day!
The other product that I use is SH-RD Protein Hair Mask!
91f2EeVE13L._SL1500_This one was another suggestion from my hair stylist.. he uses it on everyone! The good thing about this product is that a little goes a seriously long way. I’ve had mine for over a year, maybe longer, and I’ve hardly made a dent. I especially like to use this on my ends, it adds a lot of moisture. When I do my over night waves, I pin up my hair, and before I do that I put a bunch of this right on the ends so they don’t dry out too much overnight. You can use this on wet or dry hair, I like to use it on damp hair.
Phew, almost done! The last thing I want to share is my new favorite dry shampoo… Batiste Strength & Shine!
16986870You know how some dry shampoos leave your roots looking dusty? This does not do that! I have dark hair.. so that whitish residue was not a good look for me. I really didn’t like to add shine cream, because that’s just too many products for me (because ONE more would make such a huge difference lol). Anyway, this does not leave your roots looking grey and dull, so it’s a major winner in my book!
It feels like a lot, but when I remember that I don’t use all these things at once it doesn’t seem so bad. What are some of your current favorite hair products?
