Updated Hair Care Routine!

I feel like I haven’t done an update on my hair in forever! I think the last thing I showed you was my pink hair. Well, that’s long gone. I dyed my hair back (as close as I could get) to my natural brown hair color, and I’ve just been trying to grow out all my gross ends.

So, first and foremost, I now get a trim every 8 weeks. My last one was a really big one, I chopped off two inches. It needed to go.

The shampoo I have been using for a while now is L’oreal Ever Pure Moisture Shampoo.

It’s amazing. I had a pretty dry scalp before I started using this and I haven’t had any problems since. It’s now a staple of mine. And it smells awesome!

I am using some new conditioners though. I finally ran out of what I had and decided to go get some stuff I haven’t tried before.

The first one is It’s A 10 Silk Express Miracle Silk Conditioner

it's a 10 silk

I’ve only used it a few times, so I don’t have any strong opinions about it yet. I do have to say that I noticed that my hair did dry faster after using it. Honestly, I didn’t know it was supposed to do that until I accidentally read it somewhere lol. I’ll keep testing and may put up a full review.

Another conditioner I just started using is OGX Hydrate + Repair Creamy Hair Butter

ogx

This is a leave in or rinse out, which is pretty cool! It is very buttery. Again, I’ve only just started using it and I’ve been switching between it and the It’s A 10, so I need to use one at a time for a while before I can formulate a real opinion.

I like both of them so far, so that’s good news lol.

A conditioner I’ve been using for a little while now is the It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in.

10 leave in

I use it every time I wash my hair, after using a rinse out conditioner. I like it, my hair definitely feels softer, especially right after I comb it out.

And finally, OGX Argan Oil.

argan oil

I really like to use this on my ends, I find that it helps when I slather it on my ends before bed and it soaks in overnight. Also, if I do a no-heat overnight curling thing (which I usually do) I like to add just a tiny bit of this all over my hair after I brush it out.

And that’s it! I think I still have another 2-3 inches to get rid of until my hair is where I want it to be. But in the meantime, I’ll be trying all the hair things!

Coconut Oil Pre-wash Initial Thoughts!

I decided it was time to switch up my hair routine!

A little background on my hair… I’ve been coloring it for a long while now, and I have pretty dry ends. I might be bleaching said ends this weekend for a plummy ombre, so I really needed something to add lots of moisture. My normal routine includes a shampoo and conditioner recommended by my hair guy and some hair serums, like Biosilk. My hair guy actually gave me the shampoo and conditioner for my last birthday and when I ran out, I decided to buy it on Amazon because I could get a bigger size for cheaper. What I didn’t realize is that the shampoo I got from Amazon has sulfates! GASP! But I used it for a while anyway, then I started to find my scalp getting really dry. It might be from sulfates, or our hard water, or both. So it was time for a change.

I present to you… coconut oil!

This is the one I got… it is Wegmans brand extra virgin unrefined coconut oil.

So coconut oil is a little weird, it comes in a tub and it’s solid. Some blogs recommend microwaving it to melt it, I just rubbed it in my hands until it melted. It was a little messier, but worked.

I started by parting my hair into two sections and just working the oil in starting from my ends going up. Then I flipped my hair over, and made sure that I got every strand. Then I added a little bit to my scalp and roots, and finally extra on my ends. Then I put it up, threw on a shower cap and went about my business for an hour.

To go along with this, I also bought a sulfate-free shampoo. I opted for L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo, which is part of the Color Care System.

So after the hour was up, I washed my hair as I normally would. I did double shampoo, just to ensure that I got all the oil out of my roots. I lightly shampooed my ends for the same reason. Then conditioned, and that was it!

I was nervous about my hair being really oily, but I had no oily residue, just super shiny hair! I really tried not to brush it too much and just let it dry as it would naturally. I did add some hair serum when it was damp, just to reduce frizz. Also, I left my hair as it was, no styling. I usually do an overnight no-heat curling thing, but I decided against it just to test what my hair would be like.

Overall, I like the results so far. My hair is nice and shiny, and the color is more vibrant. It’s really soft, my ends are still a tad dry, but I do have a bunch of split ends that need trimming. So far no change in my scalp, but I wouldn’t expect that (or the dry ends) to change overnight.

I’m definitely going to keep doing this, probably once a week and I’ll write another update in a month or so!

Have you guys done any pre-washes? Thoughts?

Current Favorites: Mascaras!

I was never a huge fan of mascara, weird, I know! But it’s true. I just started getting into wearing it since I’ve started actually doing my makeup and leaving my house every day. Here are my current faves (no particular order)!

mascaras

  • L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga
  • Diorshow Blackout
  • It Cosmetics Tightline
  • Urban Decay Supercurl
  • Benefit They’re Real

Is that too many? Can you have too many favorites? I don’t think so. I’ve been loving trying out new ways to layer these guys together. My two recent favorites are It Cosmetics with Diorshow or Benefit on top. Also really like to layer Supercurl with Miss Manga or Diorshow.

My Work Day Makeup Staples!

Recently started  working full time in our office, prior to that I was blissfully working from home. Working from home didn’t call for makeup, just my couch. But now that I need to see people every day, I thought I’d share my work staples!

workstaples

This is basically the gist of my day to day makeup. So here are my work day makeup staples:

  • Matte neutral eyeshadow

My go-to for a while now has been the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. I think it’s perfect for every day wear. It has a mostly matte, all neutral shades. I’ve also started using my Too Faced Candy Bar pop out palette as well-it has a lot of darker shades so I use it with Naked Basics. I love palettes that do double duty, so with both palettes I can use shadows to fill in my brows and as highlight colors. My usual routine though, is to use Naked Basics on my lid and crease, Candy Bar as my highlight and darker color on the lower lash line (and the bronzer!).

  • Liquid eyeliner

Some people can skip the liner, but I cannot. I’ve always had a soft spot for eyeliner. I love liquid liner for work because it’s just fast. I’ve tried using gel, but it usually takes up more time in the morning. My two picks recently have been the Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner in Perversion and the L’oreal Telescopic liner in Carbon Black. Love these for different reasons: the Urban Decay has an awesome little brush, loving that way more than the felt tip lately. It has a glossier finish and sometimes needs a few layers to get it very black (might be because mine’s getting old though). When I don’t want a glossy finish, I grab the L’oreal. It’s matte and super black, it does have the felt tip but I deal with it.

  • Mascara

I’ll admit that sometimes I do forget mascara, but I’ve been really trying to remember! When I do I go for my L’oreal Volumious Miss Manga or my Urban Decay Supercurl (also love a Diorshow that I have but it’s not water proof and I have horrible allergies). I’ve been loving the Miss Manga every since I got it for my birthday and I just rediscovered my Supercurl. Sometimes I like to layer them as well.

  • Concealer

Probably the most important in my routine. As you can tell from the picture, I do not use foundation. I don’t even own any foundation. My skin is on the drier side and I don’t like layering a lot of stuff on it, it ends up caking up on me. So instead of using foundation or BB cream (which I do have), I just use concealer. My go-to is my MAC Pro Longwear. I love applying it with my Real Technique sponge. It has great coverage and I can spread thinner layers to avoid caking. Just as a note, I do use moisturizer and primer before I use concealer.

So those are my staples! As I said I do slightly bronze just to warm up my face, and I use the Chocolate Soleil bronzer that comes in the Candy Bar pop out palette. Sometimes If I decide to highlight I use theBalm’s Mary Lou-Manizer.

L’oreal Miss Manga Mascara Review!

You can thank the boyfriend for this one.. this was one of my birthday presents.

manga

First let’s talk about the wand. You can see that it’s a cone shape, thicker on the bottom and thinner at the top. I love this about it because you can get hard to reach lashes in closer to your inner corner very easily. You might also be able to tell that this is one of those bendy wands. I’ve never used one of these bendy wands… I didn’t even know that it was like this until I opened it up for the first time, but I don’t mind it. I actually don’t notice it bending or anything during application.

Formula on this is great in my opinion. It’s not thick or goopy, but it’s very black and gives you lots of length. It can clump a little though, but I usually just do another swipe to separate my lashes. It also sets quickly, so you don’t have to worry about it getting all over your face. It does give some volume, but if I want more volume I’ll apply a more volumizing mascara over top.

I have heard that some people have experienced flaking, I haven’t had any flaking so A+ for that. I also lasts a long time and comes off easily with a makeup wipe.

So all in all, this is my new go to mascara. Love it. Highly recommend it.

L’oreal Telescopic Precison Liquid Eyeliner Review!

Since I liked (not loved) my Physicians Formula eyeliner, I decided to go ahead and try out another one. This time I picked a brand that I normally wouldn’t.

As you can see I got it in the color Carbon Black.

This eyeliner is similar to the newer Milani eyeliner, it has a felt tip and longer handle.

The color is super black and is very opaque. I do have a problem making perfectly straight lines though, it might be because of the stiff tip.
On the bright side, I had no issues with it drying out! It also sets very quickly, which is good. It does dry a little matter than I’m used to. The PF eyeliner dries super glossy! I kind of got used to that and the matte was meh to me.
Overall, I do like the formula of this but I’m not a super fan of the stiff felt tip and the matte finish.
Do you guys have any favorite drugstore eyeliners? I’m open to suggestions!
